Temezcal's Growing Interest

image of Temazcal

The intention is to support the development of new temezcals and training of dedicated Temezcaleros utilizing ancestral teachings so that many communities may experience this sacred healing space.

What to expect...

Mayan Yoga Philosophy is utilized. The environment is heated similar to Bikram Yoga. Herbs are utilized to create a natural aromatherapy affect.

The Temazcal has a blanket as a front door, so very little light comes in. The door is opened 4 times-4 doors. Examples are the first door is Guided Meditation, the second door is Sacred Story Telling, the third door is Sound and Healing, the fourth door may include Indigenous techniques and activities to develop relationship with nature and the cosmos.

You may be covered with a towel or blanket. Men usually wear a bathing suit and women wear a long cotton skirt and top that covers the shoulders. The environment is usually very relaxing and a good complement to your other health routines. A temazcal may be 1-2 hours in length. (Please plan for the afternoon because of the car pool requirements)

Note: Larger Monthly Temazcals do not include body positions, due to limited space. A larger group sits in a circle and participates in the Four Sacred Door Journey as described above.

More about Temazcal...

Sound and Healing is used to connect with and support the Central Nervous System which affects the emotions and mind.

Private Temazcal is offered on occasion during the week. You may arrange a private Temazcal for birthdays, anniversaries, family or a group of friends, etc.

In private session, specific body positions of Kinam Yoga may be used to assist healing of physical or emotional symptoms. The positions are similar to restorative yoga positions used for supporting the body. This allows you to open your body and balance the Meridian or Energy Body through passive stretching.

The postures are usually adapted from seated yoga poses with the addition of blankets to eliminate unnecessary straining. For instance, a seated forward bend can be done with several folded blankets on top of the legs so that your forward bend is fully supported with the entire torso resting on your props. Positioning the legs up the wall is a classic pose and a prop is used to support the legs.

(Please note this adapation is Unique and is Copy Righted and in the process of TradeMark to support International Shamans and Healers working toward the Re-emergence of Indigenous Medicine in efforts to build bridges between North & South).
